WASTE TO ENERGY POWER PLANT – DUBAI

Square

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

Dubai Municipality organized an International competition to award the design and construction of its new and first Waste to Energy Plant (capacity 2000ton/day expandable to 4000 ton/day). In this EPS contract Fred srl had the role of leader consultant for the Architectural, Structural, geotechnical and MEP design both during Tender and, in case of award, during design phases.

During Tender phase we have developed a preliminary design for architectural, civil works and MEP systems, including bill of quantities and cost estimation.

As required by Dubai Municipality, the design has been developed with two solutions:

  • The most efficient and economical solution for the Plant
  • A conceptual solution that can be adopted as an Icon By Dubai Municipality for Expo 2020.

Focusing on the second version of the Waste to Energy Plant, our architects have redefined the volumes of an ordinary incinerator with sinuous lines inspired by the Bedouin tents. This important sign of the landscape covering the Process Building it has been designed as a ‘second skin’ for the ordinary incinerator structure. The Process’ stacks, rising on the cover, are enveloped by a steel tower that at the end is frayed. The administration and visitors building is a circular object, completely transparent, developed around a scenic stairway that connects the parking areas to the visitor level, to the administration floor.
